Why batch your errands?
Save time
Grouping nearby stops into one trip can cut your weekly errand time in half. Instead of four separate drives, you make two planned runs.
Save fuel
Fewer cold starts and shorter total distance means real savings at the pump. A typical household can save $15-30 per month by batching errands.
Forget less
A written plan with deadlines means fewer forgotten tasks. The checklist format keeps you on track and gives you a sense of progress.
How to get the most from ErrandBatch
- Sit down Sunday evening and list every errand for the coming week. Include the area and any hard deadlines.
- Mark recurring tasks like weekly grocery runs or pharmacy pickups. They will auto-save for next time.
- Check the batch panel to see your errands grouped by area. Tackle urgent items first within each batch.
- Print or copy your plan before heading out. Check off items as you go.
- Review after each week. Did you miss any errands? Add them to next week's list so nothing falls through.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
Vague area names
Writing "across town" as the area gives you no useful grouping. Use specific names like "Main Street" or "Westside Plaza" so the planner can actually sort your errands.
Ignoring deadlines
If you leave the deadline blank, the planner treats everything as equal urgency. Even a rough date like "by Thursday" helps the sort order.
Too many urgent items
When everything is urgent, nothing is. Be honest about what can wait. Most errands are normal priority. Save urgent for time-sensitive tasks.
Not checking hours
The planner does not know store hours. A batch is only useful if the places are open when you plan to go. Double-check before you head out.
What to know before you start
- Mileage estimates are rough averages. Real distances depend on your exact route and traffic.
- This planner groups by area name, not GPS coordinates. It works best when you use consistent neighborhood names.
- Saved errands live in your browser only. Clearing browser data will remove them.
- This is a planning aid, not a navigation app. Use it alongside your preferred maps app for actual directions.
Questions people ask
How does the planner decide which errands go together?
It groups errands by the area or neighborhood you enter. Within each area, it sorts by priority (urgent first) and then by deadline. All your downtown errands end up in one batch, sorted by importance.
Can I reuse my errands next week?
Yes. Mark any errand as recurring and it saves to your browser. When you come back, click Load Saved to pull them all back in. Remove ones you no longer need.
What if two errands are in the same area but far apart?
The planner groups by area name, not exact address. If two places in the same neighborhood are far apart, use different names like "North Grocery" and "South Grocery" to keep them in separate batches.
How accurate are the mileage estimates?
They are rough guides. The planner assumes an average trip distance per errand type (about 3 miles for a quick stop, 6 miles for a shopping run). Use these for planning, not budgeting.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser. The save feature uses localStorage, which never leaves your device. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no servers involved.
